He, with Lemaire, created the decor of the Theatre Français as well as the Hôtel de Ville, Paris. He later moved back to Brussels, and worked on theaters and casinos there.
In 1897, he worked on the Canvas Print for the Brussels International Exposition (1897). The Canvas Print for the Absinthe Robette et for the Casino de Cabourg were published in Les Maîtres de l'Affiche.
✨ Why was Absinthe banned in France United States and Switzerland?
Absinthe was banned between 1910 and 1915 in most European countries and USA, and the ban was only lifted in 2007 in the US and 2011 for France.
It was banned for 3 main reasons:
1) Counterfeit absinthe was being sold with poisonous additives.
2) An insect had decimated most of the vineyards in France in previous years, leading to Absinthe becoming the most popular drink in France, surpassing wine. When the vineyards started to come back, the very powerful wine lobby in France portrayed Absinthe as being evil.
3) Alcohol was being blamed at the time for a lot of society's problems, which eventual led to the temparance movement and prohibition in the United states. In 1905 a laborer got drunk, murdered his family and tried to cmmit suicide but shot himself in the jaw instead.
He'd had copious amount of alochol, wine, cognac, brandy, creme de menth, and cruciall 2 glasses of Absinthe. It was the absinthe that got the blame and became the scapegoat for the tradegy.
