"Lady with a Fan" (German: Dame mit Fächer) is the final portrait crafted by Gustav Klimt. Painted in 1917, this uncommissioned artwork features an unidentified woman and was still on his easel at the time of his death in 1918. The piece reflects strong Asian influences, showcasing numerous Chinese motifs, a characteristic of many of Klimt's later works.
In June 2023, this masterpiece was auctioned by Sotheby's in London, fetching £85.3 million ($108.4 million, €99.2 million), setting a record as the highest price ever achieved for a work of art in Europe. The painting was acquired by art dealer Patti Wong on behalf of a Hong Kong collector.
The square painting portrays a woman with chestnut curls against a yellow background adorned with Oriental motifs. She gazes into the distance to the left, her patterned silk robe slipping off her shoulder, while she holds a fan that partially conceals her bosom.
