The Storm on the Sea of Galilee is a 1633 oil-on-Framed painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Rembrandt van Rijn. It was previously in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston but was stolen in 1990 and remains missing. The painting depicts the miracle of Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee, specifically as it is described in the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Mark.
Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee, dated 1633 was made shortly after Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam from his native Leiden, when he was establishing himself as the city’s leading painter of portraits and historical subjects.
✨ Rembrandt van Rijn Quotes:
"Life etches itself onto our faces as we grow older, showing our violence, excesses or kindnesses."
"Painting is the grandchild of Nature."
"I envy the poet. He is encouraged toward drunkenness and wallows with nubile wenches while the painter must endure wretchedness and pain for his art."
