Uncle Sam point the finger of moral responsibility to recruit troops for World War 1. Over 4 million copies were printed throughout the USA between 1917 and 1918.
On September 7, 1813, the United States gets its nickname, Uncle Sam. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who supplied barrels of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812.
The barrels were marked E.A (Elbert Anderson - the company supplying the barrels) U.S (for united states. Factory workers stated using the name "Uncle Sam" for U.S, which stuck, and the nickname for the US government was born.
