Vintage Nude Poster/Print Beautiful Andromeda Stripped & Chained. Neoclassical oil on canvas painting created by Gustave Dore in 1869.



The painting depicts Andromeda, the daughter of the Aethiopian king Cepheus and his wife Cassiopeia. The sea monster Cetus is sent to ravish Andromeda as punishment for her mothers boasts.

Cassiopedia boasted that Andromeda was more beautiful even than the sea nymphs, so in classical vengeful Greek God style Poseidon send the sea monster as divine punishment.

Andromeda is stripped and chained naked to a rock as a sacrifice to sate the monster but is saved from death by Perseus.
