Witches Canvas Print, Witches Flyiong Broomsticks From The 18th Century.
William Holbrook Beard (April 13, 1824 – February 20, 1900) was an American artistic painter who is known best for his satirical paintings of beasts performing human-like activities.
Urban myth has it that witches used to take ergot from rye bread. Ergot is a powerful hallucinogen. It is also so that ingesting it would make them vomit.
So they would smear the ointment on their skin, and also on the broomstick. They would ride the broomsticks in order to allow the hallucinogenic ingredients to enter the body without being rejected by the stomach!
